Graduation Party!!

Logan graduated from George Washington Elementary School this past June and my friend Michelle asked if I wanted to do a pool party at her house for both Logan and her daughter Lauren.  As soon as the word "yes" came out of my mouth, we started planning.  Michelle is amazing, she really knows how to decorate and throw a party.  She ordered goodie bags, candy, decorations and paper products all in red and white.   She put up the tents in her yard and did all the decorations, the yard looked great!!  She ordered an inflatable slip and slide and water bucket drop.  The kids loved it all.

While she was doing all the work, I was home decorating the cake and making little red velvet cupcakes which were iced with cream cheese frosting and a cherry.  They looked so cool, I just loved how they looked on the table. You can see them in the photos below.  We put them on long popsicle sticks and placed them in glass jars.

Now for the cake, the Marty and Mike decided that a cake of the school would be cool and both Logan and Lauren decided they liked that idea.  Michelle and I protested since there isn't much character to the school but the kids insisted so a cake of the school it was.  I decided to add items to the top of the cake that were meaningful to both the kids in order to jazz it up a bit so I added:
  • two string instruments a Base (Logan) Viola (Lauren)
  • Museum of Natural History, this was their 5th grade field trip
  • Daren the Lion for the DARE program
  • George Washington Mascot, George which was drawn by a kindergarten years ago
  • Graduation cap and white tassel with 2013 drawn on
  • Both kids took the 510 yellow bus to school and home so I made a school bus
  • GW letters on stone that are in front of the school
  • For good behavior and accomplishments, the teachers would give the kids paper cherries which could add up and they would get special things throughout the years.
  • GW motto about "Being George" on the side of the cake
So here is the cake making process.

I got too tired to take photos intermittently therefore, here is the end result.

The white cherry by the grad cap wasn't suppose to be there, someone put it there before I took the pictures.

Look closely, with the heat and humidity, the cake started to bulge in the front.  Not the prettiest cake but the kids LOVED it.  I had trouble trying to get a photo because they were all jumping in front, some taking pictures others just yelling "look at this or that" they were so excited, I was so fearful that the cake was going to be toppled over LOL.  The thrill of making a cake this big is the reaction of the kids, they don't care that it's not perfect, they love it and that makes all those hours of work and lack of sleep worth it.

I hope you enjoyed the photos, now that this is over I can concentrate on making scrapbook pages and cards again.

Have a great day!!

Page Map Challenge for NSD

This weekend was National Scrapbooking Day and I decided to take up a challenge.  I used this Becky Fleck sketch and made an 8x11 double layout in less than an hour.  Then I went to my son's baseball game and when I got back I looked at the layout and took the whole thing apart.  What was I thinking, I don't make 8x11 pages.  So off I went and made a 12x12.  Here is the sketch I followed:

And here is my double 12 x 12 layout:

I turned the sketch around so that Logan was facing into the page instead of out.  I had decided on an A to Z page a while ago so I had all the adjectives written out.  This page came together really easy since there wasn't too much to it.  I realize the flower is not in the page maps but I needed it because I ran out of the stripped paper...yes it covers a gap.

Thanks for stopping by, have a great day!

Logan's 3rd grade DOUBLE layout

With school approaching I wanted to show something school related so I took a one page layout of Logan's first day in the 3rd grade and made it a double layout. You will recognize the first page, I posted in my blog a while ago. Here are the pages:

This page was a lot of fun to make with the stamps, rub-ons, paper clips and Cricut letters. Enjoy!!!

Meeting Sofia

Here is a layout I finished a few weeks ago. It's a simple page but the pictures are so meaningful to me. I loved when Logan first walked into the room to meet Sofia. I know I kept telling whoever had the camera, just take a bunch of pictures and keep taking them. I wanted to get his reaction to meeting his brand new sister. He didn't disappoint, he was gentle and sweet and so excited at the same time and just wanted to hold her. I was so proud of him. Love you Logan!! So here is the layout I made to recall that wonderful day.

I hope you enjoy this page as much as I do. We are expecting Hurricane Irene tomorrow so everyone in her path please be safe. Have a great weekend.

In Logan's Words

This page was inspired by the Big Classes challenge. The challenge was to use NO PHOTOS...that was a shocker for me the whole point of scrapping for me is to get my photo into a scrapbook but the more I thought about the more this thought evolved in my head. I always wanted to get some of Logan's funny saying down into my scrapbook so what better way. I love how this page turned out.

For this page I used Wordle.com to create this awesome word mess. I used Paper pretties image Tire Swing Cooper, Rhinestones, DP, stickers, Cricut Lite Billionaire, SU cardstock and ink, and a gorgeous bottle cap given to me ages ago by my friend Heather.

As always thanks for stopping by, leave me a comment to let me know what you think.
